"Subversive" monitoring records 1933-1936.

Series documents the monitoring of radical and/or controversial labor and political movements in Portland by investigators for the Multnomah County Relief Committee (MCRC). Records include Communist party flyers/handouts; labor union posters and bulletins; various brochures or handouts (dodgers) announcing mass rallies; correspondence; "intelligence" reports on individuals or organizations involved in "subversive" activities; and lists of members of the Communist Party in Portland. Series also includes copies of radical Northwest newspapers (1933-1936) including: FAX, The Independent, The New Deal, and The Voice of Action (Seattle). Topics include relief procedures, relief protests, Portland Waterfront strike (1934), leftist political parties, labor organizing, rallies and meetings, and confrontations with relief officials. Series was originally referred to as the "Propaganda" file by MCRC.
